All Souls' Novena Letter

October, 2012

Dear Friend,

May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.  Amen.

That simple prayer always brings such comfort to me when I remember Mom and Dad, my sister, Marilyn, my brother, Steve, my nephew, Dustin, and so many others who remain dear to me even though they have passed from this life.  I want them to have eternal life with God, and I want them to know they are in my heart even now.

Love is forever, and it's impossible for us to stop loving and caring for our dear departed loved ones.  Our bonds with them are eternal, and our prayers for them will not stop.

I know that you, too, have that same enduring love and care for special people who have passed away.  I don't need to tell you who they are.

The Capuchin friars and missionaries are already preparing for the All Souls' Novena of Masses later this fall, and we want to remember your departed loved ones as we stand at the altar, joining your prayers with ours.

The Holy Mass is a beautiful gift for our departed family members and friends.  In the Mass we celebrate the redemption won for us by Christ's death on the cross. The gates of Heaven are opened to receive those who have died.  We pray that God will be abundantly merciful and receive them into His glorious and joyful presence forever.

What greater expression of love could there ever be?  More than anything, we earnestly pray that they will have eternal life, and we will do anything to help them get there.

Your departed loved ones are always on your mind and in your heart.  It will take only a few moments to click here and list the names of those you wish to be included in these special 500 Masses offered by missionary priests during the month of November.  We Capuchin friars will be honored to place the names of your loved ones on the altar as we celebrate the Holy Mass.

Of course, we will also pray for you.  Perhaps it has been many years or just like yesterday that they left you, but the grief and sorrow continue.  We pray that God will give you the consolation of knowing that you will one day be united with Him and your loved ones when there will be no more tears, no more weeping.

I am so very thankful for your support of our Capuchin missions. Your offering for our All Souls' Novena of Masses will be a gift to our missionaries who are laboring to bring the good news of eternal life to people all around the world.  Not only will you remember your loved ones, you will also enable a missionary to bring the eternal love of God to others.

May God bless you for your enduring love for those who have passed from this life, and may our gracious God give you consolation as you quietly mourn their passing.

Peace and Blessings,

Fr. John Pfannenstiel, OFM Cap.
